Miss Earth New York, Melissa Cole, is a purposeful pageant princess and green expert. The green movement’s prettiest and freshest new face, she introduced me to a campaign called Meatless Monday. Now, now don't worry. I'm not trying to convert you into a vegan. What I am encouraging you to do is give up meat just once a week- now that isn't so bad, is it?!!? So what does meat have to do with saving the Earth? Because giving up meat, as it turns out, is one of the most effective ways to reduce our carbon footprint.
Here’s why:
According to PETA,
1.)The meat industry causes more global warming (through emissions of carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrus oxide) than all the cars in the world.
2.)More than half of the water used in the U.S. is used to raise animals for food!
3.)Farmed animals produce about 130 times the excrement as the entire human population of the U.S. The run-offs from the factory farms pollute rivers and lakes more than industrial sources combined.
As a plus, giving up meat also has health benefits. Because many farm animals aren’t raised in the healthiest way, the meat you eat is also unhealthy. Thus, reducing your meat intake will make you healthier. Lessening meat helps cure diabetes, reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease, and cures obesity.
By the way, famous MM supporters include Kate Moss, Simon Cowell, and Leona Lewis. (Wait, these are all Brits! Americans we MUST step our game up!) =)
So what do you say? Can you give up meat for one day a week, and meat the green movement in the middle? If you’re willing to join the movement, type “BOK BOK” in the comments section below!
Until we meat next time!

It's not necessarily that eating meat is harming the earth, it's the fact that people's love of money and purpose of capitalizing off of big farming business is effecting our planet. If we all still received our dairy and meats from our local farmers, it would be less produce companies in the country.I highly recommend reading

I highly recommend reading this article for the facts on the dangers of veganism and its harmful effects on the environment, as it is very important to be informed on both sides of an issue when one's personal health is at stake: http://www.wellsphere.com/health-education-article/vegan-diets-unhealthy-and-harmful-to-the-environment/652504Hi Charlotte, thank you so

Hi Charlotte, thank you so much for sharing this- we definitely need to be informed on both sides!! I'm not a vegan, but I was suprised to see how becoming a vegan can be so helpful. I think everyone can be okay giving up meat at least once a week though :)

Yes, reducing the grocery bill! Even just one day a week helps, isnt that crazy? It's easy and helps us be more nutritious. AND you can still have your meats on some days :) My dad used to make fun of me for giving up meat (we're Filpino and our diets are just like Southern food diets- so many things are FRIED and meaty!) but guess who's been asking me for food advice these days? I even caught him buying Soy cheese! LOL
